Not true.. I am the Art Director for a Art department that makes grocery store ads.
Soda is not a common loss leader since it's DSD Pepsi/Coke keep close price controls.
I usually see produce and meat used as loss leaders..
--------------------------------------------
Another point... I expect that TJ MAXX just bought up a bunch of the Refurbished iPads and is taking a $50 loss on each to get people in the stores.
That's true: soda/chips not loss leaders but maintained by rack jobbers.

I think in order to create new cutting edge products every company has to violate some patents of others (due to stupidity of the patent system they companies can patent almost everything). The origins of the patent system were a good idea to protect really new innovations but it got abused by too many companies and people who approve probably cant distinguish new original ideas from common sense ideas. That makes it hard for companies to enforce their original ideas since they can get counter suit with trivial patents (I'm not saying this is the case here - but that is the general problem).
Apple probably knew they are getting sued in return and took that into account by weighing the severity of violations (in their point of view). Probably it will end in out of court settlement - so I'm not sure what it is good for except making everyone aware that companies borrow ideas from each other ...
One of the patents:
Mobile telephone capable of displaying world time and method for controlling the same
An apparatus and method for calculating and displaying local time for a plurality of cities in the world. The apparatus includes a memory for storing Greenwich mean time (GMT) information for each of the plurality of cities. The apparatus sets a reference time and counts the time that elapses from when the reference time is set. The apparatus calculates a local time of a city selected by a user, which is based on a difference between the GMT of the selected city and the GMT of a present location of the apparatus, the reference time and the counted elapsed time. The reference time may be either a time set by the user or a system time acquired from a signal generated from a remote system.
How can companies get patents for such trivial algorithms???
Does this mean we can blame Samsung for the alarm clock bug whenever the summer/winter time change happens?

This is really funny. Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I'm the infamous seller! :) How are you guys. It's funny that most people here are laughing about the stupidity of others like myself.
But anyway, this is in no way illegal. I would know, being a student of law. In addition, eBay AND PayPal have sided with me on this matter MULTIPLE times. The only time PayPal sided with the buyer was when they claimed they never got it and I had no shipping proof. The item is accurately described, end of story. Stop crying about it and be more responsible.
Just an ending note, I've made over $2,000 doing this before and used it to buy two amazing Les Pauls. ;)
Thanks!
- Dan
Are you the seller for this Iphone's photo? the seller name is Dan as well as you are.

Why do some posters put down peoples choices or even the fact that it exists in white?
So, if you don't like a white iphone, buy black. It's all good:-)
I like black, but my daughter likes white. When I asked why, she said it goes well with her white ipad and white MacBook, when they are all on her desk.
Sounds like as good a reason as any.
She has a 3GS off contract that is totally on it's last legs (broken glass replaced with plastic, battery empty mid-day), so her only decision is to wait out the next iphone or not.
Unfortunately she has never been able to wait for anything(despite me mentioning not to buy 1st gen Apple products), so she'll probably buy the ip4 in white.
I bet there are many people out there in the same situation.
"Sick" in that context means "good" I think...he likes the White too...

Weren't they made aware of this almost a year ago? That's a long time to address an oversight.
Actually the recent news about the location db is a completely unrelated issue.
1. Apple does collect location data in order to improve their location services. This was long ago disclosed to regulators and users. This is NOT the target of the recent media buzz.
2. Your phone dynamically creates a local cache of known cell tower locations in order to aid in GPS triangulation (the "a" in aGPS). This is the recent hot topic and has been grossly misrepresented by the media. (Apple does not collect this data, because they sent it to you in the first place)

Hi All,
First off I am new here, so Hi again
I have a small problem getting Microsoft Outlook 2001 to use my 2003 Exchange server. I have to admit I am new to macs and am finding it a little hard to do anything but I am trying.
From what I can tell is that for some reason my the mac will not resolve the server name to an ip address. I mean when I look in the Outlook settings, under services --> properties if I place the servers IP address there and then the user name and then 'check the name' it resolves the name of the server and under lines the user name (which as far as I am concerned has worked).
Yet when I then launch Outlook I get a message saying folders could not be opened. The attempt to log on to the server failed..... Microdoft Outlook could not be started. The attempt to log on to the MS Exchange Server failed....................
What I have done so far:-
Updated the /etc/hosts file and added the ip address for the server (can ping both IP and name from the console and network util)
When in Outlook settings --> properties and user the server name instead of the IP address and try and check name I get an error.. The name could not be resolved. Network problems are preventing connection to the MS Exchange Server, Contact your system adminsitrator (me).
Sorry for the long post but this is a real problem. Any help would be much appreciated.
Ian
PS The only thing I can sort of think of at the moment is that Outlook starts I think in classic mode??? I am not sure if this starts a new shell and therefore ignores the /etc/hosts file and that is the reason why it can not resolve the server name. If I am right my next question would be where is the hosts file for the classic enviroment??

If each byte were a $1000 bill, that's still less than the US national debt of $14.3PB (again, if B were $1000 for agrument's sake)
I take it math isn't your strong subject?
US debt is approximately $14 trillion. A peta- is 1000 times larger than a tera- and you are suggesting that the debt is 1000 time larger than that. That's OK, you only missed by a factor of one million.

Change, again. ugh. Let's hope it's free this time!
Steve will go on and on about how revolutionary it is, then inform us its only $29.00 per month on a one year contract.
First my address was @mac.com, then @me.com,

I was under the impression that it wasn't possible to use a PB display as an external monitor, unless you were running it over a network or whatnot.

I've owned my SB (2011) MBP for over a month now. I have yet to use the Thunderbolt port and wished many times that it had USB3.0 support. Are there any Thunderbolt adapters available on the market yet? TB to USB 3.0 would be great. Alternatively a docking station would be cool. Anything besides the one LaCie drive?

I got there a few minutes before launch. Didn't expect that many people to be there, I thought there was just gonna be a small line or something, not a rectangle. Counted at least 600 before I left.

I think some decent smart minds need to sit together, and work out this whole patent problem thing... It's getting ridiculous. They should just open it up to everybody. F$&# it, may the best company win then.
Samsung to sue Apple over the iPhone.....ha ha ha....Yeah because the Galaxy phones are so original?? WTF You dont have to be a brain surgeon to see the blatant copy Samsung has done of the iPhone.
Apple = Innovation
Samsung = Copyware
Not really.. If you watched Steve Jobs' interviews, you should have gotten a different conclusion... Steve quoted Picasso as saying: "Good artists borrow, great artists steal..."
My conclusion is that Apple stole a lot of ideas... And I mean A LOT... But you know what, they took those ideas and made them more user-friendly, higher quality, pretty much all the pros that go along with any Apple product...
That's why I said in an earlier post that patents like that are ridiculous... It should be open for everyone and may the best company win...
That's also why we always learn about Thomas Edison and not Nikola Tesla.
