I don't really see why anyone thinks that Apple is not taking responsibility what's going on with the iPhone 4. They are saying that this signal attenuation is a problem, but that's it's not uncommon in regards to cell phones and that other reputable companies make devices with similar problems. This, in my opinion is great PR. They are bringing the topic down to a relatable level where most people can see that it's not because they don't care about the their products anymore or are not worried about maintaining their good image. Does anyone seriously believe they rushed this out just to get some more money without properly testing it? I have spent a lot of time with the new iPhone and have noticed that it performs incredibly well and that the supposed "signal attenuation" issue people blew out of proportion is something I have to go out of my way to achieve. Sure I might accidentally do it a few times in the phones life time, but I already had minor hiccups with the 3GS that didn't make the phone worthless. Honestly, if the phone bothers anyone that much, just get that free bumper. And I believe Apple is offering a money back option for returning the phone.

Well, there are some benefits to being in California where the event is happening. Fewer servers in the way, and the Akamai relays they put in must be awesomely fat in LA. But I think higher def overwhelmed the live feed entirely. Even Google couldn't pay for it.

Considering that the videos are showing up on the German QuickTime page I think that the movie store is likely to be launched across Europe and Canada as well as the states.
I just hope that the quality of the downloads is good enough to watch on an external tv.

Really, I saw this post and went :eek:! This guy has a lot to share and started to ignore, but a couple things caught my eye and read it.
It was an interesting perspective on BB from the inside. Not to far off from what I would expect. BB and other retailers are really in a pickle these days. Margins keep dropping and there is tons of competition on the Web to buy most anything at a discount.
Even the new stove I just bought. Shopped Sears, BB, Home Depot, and others... found what I liked, then went on the web to see what the real price was. Then went to the local guy and asked him to match the lowest price and he did. Best Buy and Sears can't negotiate, but the guy down the street will.
Best Buys and others have really become a place I go to touch and play with technology and then I go buy it somewhere else.
BTW... no offense, but employees at my local BB seem lost. I've heard tons of misinformation at mine. So I assume mine might have one of those questionable managers. :)
It's tough to keep good employees. My store pays well, but I honestly think the only reason they have a good staff is because they give smart people a lot of freedom. Things are loose between staff and management, they're flexible on hours and allow us to stay on the light end. We've got a lot of post-college guys like myself who knew-tech heading in with other full-time "real jobs" that come in once or twice a week still to Best Buy, because we're paid pretty well for retail (sales staff averages around $12-13/hour), we get that discount and we don't get hassled because management knows the score with us. It's worked well for us in terms of all those little numbers on the Matrix.
But if you switched out the management with some of the other stores I've seen, you'd instantly have 50-75% of the staff dropping off 2-week notices and be stuck hiring and training guys who probably don't know much coming in. Again, like just about anything, good management is huge in the equation.

Despite what a couple of posters here seem to be saying, it is good that some countries have a mechanism for protecting consumers from bad situations.
In terms of Apple's DRM however, I think you'll find that each type of DRM is a platform. Much like CDs, cassettes, and so on. I can't play vinyl in my CD player, however I can make a recording of the output, much as I can burn a CD from iTunes of iTMS purchased music.
Also it is not restricted to iPods. You can play it on every Apple Mac and Windows based PC using the freely available software from Apple. You can even play them on a couple of Motorola phones. This will weaken this part of the case against Apple. Apple can say they've taken reasonable measures to ensure that purchased media is available to the purchaser. They'll also state that there is no "No DRM" option available, this is mandated by the music companies. Also they'll state that they're not selling the music under false pretences, and people aren't forced to buy music from their store.
However I hope that the terms and conditions of use are made more consumer friendly. There are laws about terms and conditions when they apply to consumers in the EU - basically they have to be easily understood - i.e., plain english (french, german, etc), and have no unreasonable clauses, and the ability to alter the terms and conditions is an unreasonable clause.

Excellent! Although I think some are underestimating the utility of negative ratings in increasing the SNR of the forums. I can't tell you how many times I've read through a thread (especially a front page-based thread) with factual errors that no one catches for pages and while other folks speculate wildly based on that, and then others go into hysterics over the speculation and on and on... it gets ugly
A few points:
Does this use the vB reputation system? If so, I recommend the Public Display of Affection plugin if you're going to change things to show who up/downvoted. PDA was (last I checked) not explicitly compatible with 3.8.x, but I've got it running (see sig) on 3.8.1. (If you're not using the vB rep system, why not? You can hide the pips entirely, although my forum finds them useful, to judge the credibility of who's agreeing/disagreeing)

Portenzo case finally came in as did my beats that I got for $80. Also got an element/atomic copy cat case from DX and a bumper from there as well. Lastly, ordered a new stylus for the laptop. It sucks, but I'm getting a free one because the one they sent was not working. It's a good pen/laser pointer/LED torch though, but that's not why I bought it. Oh I also get some some padded twisty ties, batteries, and air canisters for office upkeep. Funny thing is I'm almost as excited about the padded cable ties as I am with the other purchases :D

So we don't take to kindly to confused legislators who would try and take them away, or place unusual restrictions on that right.

Damn then there must be something wrong with you Quad again Gary. I regularly use 1.1.2 on my 1.67 powerbook and I find it perfectly acceptable. And on my G5/X800XT it's super fast.
I think the issue with people finding it slow is there lack of understand of what Aperture is actually doing. And also not really knowing how to use Aperture to it's full potential.
Everybody wants everything to be instant but that will never happen.
I for one find the workflow of cataloguing, correcting and exporting in Aperture far faster and superior then any comparable app.
I have to say that I find Aperture acceptable on the MBP, but I guess if you are someone like iGary who uses this kind of software a lot, you notice it more and more.
Hopefully the update will make a big difference in performance, especially when they now allow you to run it, whatever the (current) hardware you buy at the same time.
